Angkana (Tan) is an associate director at LPA Singapore office. She graduated from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture. During her studies, she took a part in the school theatre production to handle lighting, and that led her to pursue lighting design. She joined LPA Singapore office in 2012 after working at a lighting design firm in Bangkok for 7 years. Since then, Tan has been handling various types of projects; residential, hospitality, commercial, transportation, and mixed-used development. She is a good listener and is able to create the appropriate lighting design solution to reflect your needs. At the same time, she wishes to design a memorable space where lighting can play a big role. Her notable projects include CHIJMES, Leedon Residence, The Sanya Edition, exhibition lighting for National Gallery Singapore, The Concourse, Gaysorn Vaillage, WINDSHELL Naradhiwas in Bangkok.

 Associate director at LPA Hong Kong office. Atsushi attended a short lecture series by Mende while he was studying environmental design, and that opened his eyes to the world of lighting design. Ever since then, he has been working with light, and has over 30 years of great experience as a lighting designer as well as a product designer. He joined LPA in 2003 worked in Singapore and Tokyo offices. He has been working in Hong Kong office since 2012. Prior to LPA, he worked at Cooper Lighting / Lumiere in California. With the experience working at lighting manufacturers, he has a vast knowledge in lighting fixtures that enables him to approach design with a greater perspective. He has handled numerous projects in the Asia including Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2 Upgrading, New National Library Bldg., Supreme Court of Singapore, The Westin Gurgaon, New Delhi, Sheraton Seoul D-cube City Hotel, Shanghai International Financial Center and Hong Kong International Commerce Centre. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Design from Tokai University in Japan. He is an associate member of IALD.

 Bryan is a senior associate at LPA Hong Kong office. In his youth, he was enchanted by the color of incandescent bulbs and electricity, which led him to pursue a Master’s degree from The University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Engineering. He worked in Malaysia as a project manager for 3 years and returned to Hong Kong to join LPA in 2016. He has been involved in a wide range of projects and worked closely with clients and project team. He believes that good observation and communication is key to a successful project. He is also sensitive to the lighting quality of spaces. Notable projects include: Nanchang Leying Plaza, Shenzhen PingAn Financial Center, Water Park at Hong Kong Ocean Park, West Lake at Huizhou and Heartland 66 at Wuhan. He is an associate member of IALD.

 Catherine is a senior associate at LPA Hong Kong office. Having the habit of observing the ever-changing sky, she was inspired by nature to express herself in an artistic manner. Lighting design became the medium for her expression and artistic pursuit. She joined LPA in 2013 after graduating from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and majored in Environmental and Interior Design. On top of her intuitive and poetic interpretations, she has a good command of languages and is sensitive to design elements. She has great experience in coordinating to achieve design goals over the years of handling various types of projects. Notable projects include: The Sanya Edition, W Hotel Beijing, Shanghai HKRI Taikoo Hui, Chengdu ICC retail interior, Humble Boutique Hotel in Taipei, The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel in Hong Kong, Mount Parker Residences Hong Kong and Alassio Hong Kong. She is also devoted to assist office management work and organize various activities. She is an associate member of IALD.

  Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Chika Makabe received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Keio University, Tokyo, and both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design, USA. She has been with LPA since 1999 and has experiences in designing commercial facilities, hotels, office buildings, housing complexes, and landscaping in Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan and Singapore.

 She is an associate member of International Association of Lighting Designers(IALD).

 Genki is an associate at LPA Tokyo office. He joined LPA in 2010 after working in Beijing. His background in theatre design and strong command of Chinese gives him unique role at LPA. After handling numerous projects in Hong Kong for 6 years, he gained great trust from clients in China and returned to Tokyo to continue taking a leading role in coordinating and communicating with clients and project teams in China. Notable projects include Park Hyatt Busan, Waldorf Astoria Beijing, Guangzhou Tianhui Plaza, Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre (East Tower), Intercontinental Zhuhai, Forte Xi’an Dahua 1935, and Heartland 66 Wuhan.

 Hikaru is a senior associate at LPA Tokyo office. His interest in lighting begun when he belonged to a theatre group as a student. He joined LPA in 2014 and has been working on wide range of projects from commercial developments to masterplanning. As a qualified electrician, he is able to delve into technical discussions with the architects/designers, contractors as well as lighting manufacturers. He also takes taking initiative to explore new technologies, materials, and lighting fixture development. He is a good photographer and took numerous pictures of LPA’s completed projects. He received a Bachelor of Design degree in Department of Scenography, Display and Fashion Design from Musashino Art University. His notable projects include Garden Terrace Kioicho, GINZA SIX, Park Hyatt Niseko Hanazono Chapel, Andaru Collection Niseko, Lighting Masterplan for Nagasaki City , BRANCH Hakata Papillon Garden, BRANCH Otsukyo, WATERS takeshiba, ISETAN Shinjuku Store, and Nagano Prefectural Art Museum.

 A senior associate at Shenzhen office, China native Hu Lin has been taking a leading role in handling projects throughout China. He joined LPA Tokyo in 2011 after receiving a Bachelor’s degree from Yanbian University in Environmental Arts Design. His initial inspiration for lighting design was from the architecture of Louis Kahn. He has a sharp eye for quality of design, and is able to solve numerous issues at project sites. In addition to projects in China such as Waldorf Astoria Beijing, W Beijing, Shanghai HKRI Taikoo Hui, Sanya Crowne Plaza Hotel and CNCC, Lin has worked on projects in South Korea such as Suwon I-Park Museum of Art and Jeongseon Park Roche Hotel because of his language proficiency. He is an associate member of IALD.

  Born in Saitama Prefecture, Junko Nagatomo graduated from the Seitoku University Junior College Domestic Sciences Dept. with an emphasis in apparel. Nagatomo is head of project budgeting, finances, and contract agreements with an accuracy and readiness to support an efficient design business.

  Kaoru Mende was born in Tokyo in 1950, earned a bachelors and masters degree from Tokyo University of Art in the field of industrial and environmental design.  In 1990, he founded Lighting Planners Associates Inc.  The scope of his design and planning activities ranges widely from residential and architectural to urban and environmental lighting design.  Mende is also the acting chief of the “Lighting Detectives”, a citizens’ group that specializes in the study of the culture of lighting.
  Mende has been involved in such superb projects as Tokyo International Forum, JR Kyoto Station, Sendai Mediatheque, Roppongi Hills, Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, Kyoto State Guest House, National Museum of Singapore, Singapore City Center Lighting Master Plan, Alila Villas Uluwatu, Gardens by the Bay, Tokyo Station, Aman Tokyo, and Gifu Media Cosmos.
  Awards Mende has received include the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) Award of Distinction, International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Radiance Award, Japan Culture Design Award, Mainichi Design Award, President’s Design Award in Singapore and others.  Mende is a visiting professor at Musashino Art University and a part-time lecturer Tokyo University of Art.  Mende is a member of the following associations, Architectural Institute of Japan (IAIJ), Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES), International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), and Japan Design Committee (JDC).

 Karen is a senior associate at LPA Hong Kong office. Born in China and grew up in Korea, she gained good communication skills working in different cultural environments. As a meticulous designer, she is committed to understand the design intention carefully to enhance the project with the suitable lighting design solutions. She gets great inspiration from the theatres where actors' emotions and scenes are expressed subtly as well as dramatically by lighting. Karen graduated from Konkuk University in Korea with a Master’s degree in Art & Design major. After working as a lighting designer in Seoul for 4 years, she joined LPA Hong Kong office in 2015. She has experience in working on residential, commercial, office, museum and gallery projects. Notable projects include: One & Two Exchange Square Renovation, Chengdu ICC Retail Interior, Nanchang Leying Plaza, Hong Kong King Lam Street Commercial Development and Galaxy Hotel Macau.

 Kouki is an associate at LPA Tokyo office. While he was working on stage design for fashion shows as a student, he was fascinated by magic of stage lighting and that led him to pursue lighting design. He joined LPA in 2014, and his expertise in electrical work allows him to create deeply technical design methods. His notable projects include The Okura Tokyo, Okura Museum of Art, Louis Vuitton Maison Osaka-Midosuji, China World Trade Centre Phase III, W Suzhou, Tenjin Business Centre. He received a Bachelor of Design degree in the Department of Scenography, Display and Fashion Design from Musashino Art University. He has also taken an active role in LPA’s non-profit activities such as Light-up Ninja at Transnational Lighting Detectives Forum in Kyoto and Ueno Cultural Park Tokyo Suki Festival.

 Kyoko is a senior associate at LPA Tokyo office. As a registered 2nd class architect, her understanding of the spatial requirements come from her extensive career as an interior designer handling retail and hospitality design for 7 years in Singapore. She joined LPA in 2011 as she was fascinated by how lighting design contributes to space and urban environment. Since then, she has been engaged to work on numerous projects. Her strengths has been fully appreciated in hospitality projects, giving her a great reputation for scrupulous design and earnest working manners during construction supervision. She received a Bachelor of Arts Interior and Spatial Design at Chelsea College of Arts in London, UK. Notable projects include Capitol Singapore, Aman Tokyo, amanemu, China World Trade Centre Phase III, TADAWUL, WOODVILLE AZABU, mesm Tokyo Autograph Collection, WATERS takeshiba, and W Osaka.

 Makalin has been working as a lighting designer in Thailand, Switzerland, Japan, and Hong Kong for the past 10 years. He joined LPA Hong Kong office in 2021. Through his diverse working experiences in different countries, he has gained great understanding of design logics, and both theoretical and practical knowledge. He became interested in lighting during his internship at a lighting design studio in Paris, where he was involved in conceptualization of projects and urban lighting. He was fascinated by how light affects architecture during the day and night, and the experience led him to complete his master degree in architectural lighting design at the University of Wismar, Germany. Notable projects include the New World Hoiana Hotel and Hoiana Residences in Vietnam, the Kaitak Mansion, the Kong Ha Wai Mansion and the Commercial Building at Wing Hong Street in Hong Kong.

 Mari is a senior director at LPA Tokyo Office. After joining LPA in 1994, Mari worked as chief designer on many of LPA’s most iconic projects. With a background in architecture and 28 years of experience, her designs reflect this deep knowledge base and are highly esteemed, receiving many national and international lighting design awards. Mari has worked on a range of projects, including large-scale redevelopment, public spaces, commercial facilities, and private residences. Recently, Mari is involved in a community effort to gather feedback and reflect them into a lighting design concept for the urban nightscape. Mari is also involved with firm publicity, including books, the annual report, and website design. Her efforts help publicize many of these and more of LPA’s activities. A graduate of Tokyo Metropolitan University, College of Engineering and Architecture. Mari’s many projects include Oasis 21, Kani Public Art Center, aLa, Dentsu Head Office, Hiroshima Naka Incineration Plant, Kagawa Prefecture Higashiyama Kaii Setouchi Art Museum, National Museum of Singapore, Nicolas G.  As a child, Masafumi loved to make things and found pure joy in creating. He was very stimulated by the energy of designers across various fields and the satisfaction of their work. This profound interest in the profession of design prompted him to apply to and attend a university of the arts. At university, he focused on furniture design, upcycling reused wooden materials, wildflowers, and soils, to create important bonds between familiar, but overlooked materials. Won an Award of Excellence in Graduation Production. He has been working on several train station projects which developed into a unique study and independent fieldwork of station lighting environments across Japan. Upon graduation from Musashino Art University with an undergraduate degree in Scenography, Display, and Fashion Design, he joined LPA in 2014. His notable projects include Chiba Station, Harajuku Station, Iidabashi Station, Takanawa Gateway Station, Kai Beppu, Kai Yufuin, Miraiku Nakamurabashi Nursery School.

 Mayumi is a associate director at LPA Singapore office. A very committed and passionate person who always devotes herself to improve her work and projects, she gained an interest in lighting design while studying theatre lighting in the US. Mayumi started her career as a lighting designer in Tokyo 2008 and joined LPA in 2011. She has been working on a wide range of projects in Japan, Singapore and China such as Guoco Tower, NUS University Cultural Centre, Huawei Masterplan, Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu, China World Trade Centre Phase 3B, Otemachi Tower, Louis Vuitton Matsuya Ginza and others. Mayumi takes initiative in lighting fixture development and exploring new details. In addition, she is active in organizing the Lighting Detectives activities in Singapore. She has received the Award of Excellence in IEI-J for The Otemachi Tower.

 Mikine is a director at LPA Tokyo office. He started his career as an architect and became intrigued by how daylight plays important role in architecture. He joined LPA in 2005 to pursue his passion in engaging lighting as the medium to create an architectural space. He is an associate director at LPA Tokyo office, and is known for his commitment to lighting detail integration to the space. He also researches daylight in lighting design, and explores CG simulations and animation applications as a part of his design communication tools. He graduated from the Faculty of Science and Technology at the Department of Architecture at Meijo University. Notable projects include Singapore City Centre Lighting Master Plan, POTALA PALACE, Peranakan Museum, Shanghai International Finance Centre, Lighting up our City Centre Exhibition, Hamarikyu Intercity, Aman Tokyo , 'Minna no Mori' Gifu Media Cosmos, Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho, The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, CITIC Ruibo, W Suzhou, Nihombashi Mitsukoshi, and THE MIXC SHENZHEN .  Misuzu joined LPA in 2010 and she is a senior associate at LPA Tokyo office. While studying architecture in Tokyo, she had a chance to stay in Paris on an exchange program and was impressed by nightscape of the city. That experience led her to study the history of urban lighting and the comparative analysis of nightscape of cities.Misuzu master’s degree thesis was on the nightscape of Tokyo. With her strong educational background, she has been pursuing the creation of nightscape with light. Notable projects include Lighting Masterplan for Nagasaki City, 'Minna no Mori' Gifu Media Cosmos, The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho, Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho, Halekulani Okinawa, Takanawa Gateway Station, JR Nagoya Gate Tower, msb Tamachi, Yanagawa City Masterplan. She holds Master of Engineering degree from the School of Engineering of the University of Tokyo, majoring in Architectural Design and Lighting Environment. She holds the License of Architects/Building Engineers in Japan, and is an associate member of IALD.

 Momoko joined LPA in 2005 and is a director at LPA Tokyo office. She has been devoting her energy and skills in diverse international lighting design projects including large-scale developments, retails, cultural public facilities, hotels, residential, and smaller scale projects. She pursues the best balance between the latest lighting technology and sensation of human and trying to maximize the value of spaces by lighting design. Besides lighting design work, she has been taking an initiative in providing lighting ideas and solutions at times of natural disaster. Also, she proceeds research on lighting environmental study of fire lamp era for better understanding of human perception on lighting. Momoko received a Master of Architectural Design Degree from the University of Tsukuba Graduate School of Art and Design. Notable projects include Library of Akita International University, Ishikawa prefectural library, Tsushima Museum, Shanghai International Financial Centre, Ocean Financial Center Singapore, Louis Vuitton Singapore Marina Bay, guntû, Amanemu, Louis Vuitton Namiki, and Ginza Six. She is an associate member of IALD.

  Born in Kumamoto Prefecture, Noriko Higashi received a Bachelor Degree of East Asian Studies from University of California, Los Angeles. She joined LPA in 2010 as a secretary of Principal Kaoru Mende.
  While supporting his business, she is also in charge of LPA’s publicities so that the completed projects and activities of LPA are to be press-agented widely. She focuses on Lighting Detectives administration and planning, as well as Lighting Detectives' events that take place at home and abroad.

 Quratuaini Bte Jamil (Aini) is an associate at LPA Singapore office. While Aini was offered an internship at LPA during her study at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore majoring in Landscape design, she developed an interest in lighting design withlandscape as her medium. Back then, she was fascinated by how lighting in a movie evokes the viewers' emotions. She joined the company after obtaining her Bachelor’s of Arts (Hons) Spatial Design. She enjoys interaction with the fellow designers and contractors while designing and working on site with constant explorations. Notable projects include 18 Robinson Tower, Waterfront Theatre Esplanade, St James Power Station and Regent Phu Quoc, Vietnam.

  Reiko Kasai has been with LPA for more than 20 years, and she is the driving force behind LPA’s Singapore office.
  She joined LPA’s Tokyo office in 1995 with the initial responsibility of planning and organizing non-profit activities involving the innovative use of lighting to reach out to the broader public. Her commitment and creativity developed from these initial programs into the lighting detectives forums, exhibitions and publications.
  She relocated to Singapore at the end of the year 2000, to develop the current success of LPA’s performance in the South Asia region. Under her leadership, the Singapore office has grown both in size and reputation.
  She holds a master’s degree in Music, was a concert pianist, and has studied and lived in both the United States and Europe. Her cosmopolitan attitude and sensitivity to music allows her to have a deep understanding of design, culture and architecture composition. This unique calibre of hers stimulates and supports the intangible and sensitive design components of the company.
  Her perception and vision have contributed to the current international expansion of LPA. Her future commitment will ensure the company’s mission of inculcating the sense of lighting to the world.
  While Reiko oversees the operations of the Singapore office she is also an active writer, reporting design, architecture and lifestyle of the region to major publications in Japan.

 Ryan has been working as a lighting designer in Korea and Singapore for the past 14 years. He has been exposed to wide range of projects such as large scale mixed-use development, hospitality, healthcare, residential and smart city masterplan. He is also active in lighting fixtures design. Born in Seoul, Korea. He studied art & design in Seoul National University of Science & Technology. His interests in arts allow him to create storytelling for his presentation. Notable projects include BBCC Lala Port, Junction city, Holy Trinity Church in Yangon , Seng Kang General Hospital , NUS museum in Singapore, AIA Hong Kong Campus, Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence. At LPA, he continues to handle wide range of projects to contribute his knowledge and experience in lighting design.

 Sachiko joined LPA in 2012 after working at a lighting manufacturer, and is now an associate at the Tokyo office. She decided to pursue lighting design while living in Norway as a teenager and witnessed how lighting is appreciated in daily life in Scandinavia. Later on, she went back to Sweden to study architectural lighting design. She enjoys interacting with clients, project teams and manufacturers, to coordinate the design work to the fullest. She graduated from the Department of Scenography, Display and Fashion Design from Musashino Art University, and holds a Master of Science from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, in Stockholm. She is an active organizing member of the Lighting Detectives children workshop, and has acted as the regional coordinator for IALD Japan from 2012-2013. Notable projects include Oita Prefectural Art Museum, Museum Shop of Tokyo National Museum, The Lalu Qingdao, Victoria Dockside, Menara Astra, ISETAN Shinjuku Store, and Takanawa Gateway Station.

 Shunichi is a director at LPA Tokyo office. He was fascinated by the magnetic power of a poetic lighting installation floating in the night sky, while studying design at the Department of Scenography, Display and Fashion Design of Musashino Art University. He later joined LPA in 2009. Passionate about researching and learning about the evolving lighting fixtures and their technologies, he pushes possibilities of design solutions to the limit through the lighting designer's point of view. He has been engaged to work on wide range of projects throughout Asia. Working in Singapore for few years gave him a new perspective to exterior/façade and outdoor lighting design. Notable projects include Restoration of The Tokyo Station, Louis Vuitton Singapore Marina Bay, Tanjon Pagar Center, Oasia Hotel Downtown, Gaysorn Village, Iidabashi Grand Bloom / Park Court Chiyoda Fujimi The Tower, Nehan-do Toukouji Temple, Osaka Hikari 2020 Lighting Masterplan, and Ecopark Lighting Masterplan. He hass been named one of Lighting Magazine's 40under40 finalist in 2021. He is also an associate member of IALD.

 Simeng joined LPA in 2012 and she is an associate at LPA Tokyo office. She is one of the leading designers handling numerous challenging projects in China. With her excellent communication skills, she is able to interact well with clients, architects and design consultants to establish common goals for projects. She has handled numerous commercial facilities, office and hotel projects such as W Suzhou, Whitestone Gallery Hong Kong, Yangshuo Yitian West Street, Shanghai Lujiazui Financial Center, GALA Mall and Embankment Square, Shanghai. She was born in China and grew up in Japan. Studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, and graduated from Glasgow School of Art, Mackintosh School of Architecture with a Master’s degree in Architecture. She is an associate member of IALD, and was invited to their Greater China Professional Forum in 2019 as a presenter.

 Chia Xing's first encounter with lighting design was when she was pursuing her Product Design Degree in Fine Arts (Honours) in Nanyang Technological University. To her, lighting has exceeded the boundaries of physical forms. The presence of light brings textures and colors to life. Chia Xing began her career as a Lighting Designer after the graduation and joined LPA in 2018. Her knowledge of product design enables her to pick up technical information swiftly and strike a balance between aesthetics and functionality. She has played a pivotal role in numerous projects, including Sentosa North South Link, Marina Bay Sands Guestrooms and Woodleigh Bidadari mixed-use development.

 Ton joined the lighting industry in 2001 in Singapore and had worked in various reputable lighting companies, acquired strong analytical skills, problem solving techniques prior joining Lighting Planners Associates in 2023. He has been actively involved in the design and project management for both small-and-large scale projects. Born in Singapore, Ton holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture from Curtin University of Technology. He started off as an Interior Designer and had worked in various international hospitality projects. His interior design background contributes to his approach to lighting design. Notable projects includes Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur, NUO Beijing, Park Hotel @ Farrer Park, Baxian Chinese Restaurant @ Republic Plaza, UOB Privilege Banking Office @ MBFC.

 Ye Yu is a senior associate at our Shenzhen office. With her years of experience as a lighting designer in China, she is knowledgeable on the building and lighting industry. She has been fully engaged to handle LPA’s numerous projects throughout China, maximizing her good communication skills with site development teams. Her notable projects include: Huizhou Le Meridien Hotel, Shenzhen One Avenue, The Mixc Manor and Xi'an Forte Dahua 1935. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts of China, and proceeded to study lighting design in Musashino Art University in Tokyo in 2008. She is a member of IALD.

  Born in Tokyo Prefecture, Yukiko Saito graduated from Japan College of Foreign Languages English Communication Course, and worked at an airline company before joining LPA in 2004. She is in charge of accounting, general affairs and interoffice communications.

 Yumi joined LPA in 2010 and is a senior associate at LPA Tokyo office. With her great understanding of architecture, she enjoys collaborating with architects to complement their superb design and to solve technical challenges. In addition, she is also actively engaged in researching and proposing how lighting can provide support during natural disasters and the post–disaster environment. She holds a Master of Architecture Design degree from the Graduate School of Engineering at University of Tokyo. She has been involved in a wide range of projects such as Iidabashi Grand Bloom & Park Court Chiyoda Fujimi, The Temple House Chengdu, JR Chiba Station, Mt.Fuji Heritage Centre, Shizuoka, guntu, KAI Beppu, and Odawara San-no-Maru Hall. She is an associate member of IALD.
