KAI Yufuin Opens Sep . 22 . 2022

Hoshino Resorts' onsen ryokan "KAI". The third "KAI Yufuin" in Oita Prefecture opened on August 3, 2022.
The light seeping through the braided bamboo; the light glowing through Washi, the Japanese paper, with ears of rice plucked into it; the light blinking gently like fireflies over the Shichitoui rush (Cyperus malaccensis); all these methods were carefully applied to accentuate the texture of the materials and the shadow of the braided bamboo, with the simple handicraft of a farmer in mind.
We designed for a calm and warm light that blends in with the rich nature of the open-terraced rice paddies and deep forests.
