Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai: Qatar PavilionJun . 03 . 2025

LPA was responsible for the lighting design of the exterior, landscape, and exhibition spaces of the Qatar Pavilion at the ongoing Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.

The exterior lighting of the building, inspired by Qatar’s traditional Dhow boat (a wooden vessel), illuminates the membrane materials and wooden boxes in three dimensions. The design concepts are “sails filled with wind,” “continuous arches evoking Islamic aesthetics,” and “scenery reflected on the water.”

Qatar’s industry and culture have historically developed along its coastline. The exhibition is organized under the theme: “From the Coastline, We Progress.”

Within the exhibition, a sequential lighting plan was implemented along the visitor flow, incorporating light walls and luminous ceilings with a focus on material selection. The main exhibition room is enveloped by multi-colored blue curtains, creating an underwater atmosphere. In the center, a large wedge-shaped object features a panoramic display of 12 marine locations, showcasing their industries, historical sites, and ecosystems through curved illuminated panels.
