{"id":5122,"date":"2016-10-05T11:35:11","date_gmt":"2016-10-05T02:35:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lighting.co.jp\/?post_type=staff&#038;p=5122"},"modified":"2025-08-27T15:59:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T06:59:09","slug":"kaoru-mende","status":"publish","type":"staff","link":"https:\/\/www.lighting.co.jp\/en\/staff\/kaoru-mende\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaoru Mende"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>\u00a0 Kaoru Mende was born in Tokyo in 1950, earned a bachelors and masters degree from Tokyo University of Art in the field of industrial and environmental design.\u00a0\u00a0In 1990, he founded Lighting Planners Associates Inc.\u00a0\u00a0The scope of his design and planning activities ranges widely from residential and architectural to urban and environmental lighting design.\u00a0\u00a0Mende is also the acting chief of the \u201cLighting Detectives\u201d, a citizens\u2019 group that specializes in the study of the culture of lighting.<\/span><br \/>\n<span> \u00a0\u00a0Mende has been involved in such superb projects as Tokyo International Forum, JR Kyoto Station, Sendai Mediatheque, Roppongi Hills, Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, Kyoto State Guest House, National Museum of Singapore, Singapore City Center Lighting Master Plan, Alila Villas Uluwatu, Gardens by the Bay, Tokyo Station, Aman Tokyo, and Gifu Media Cosmos.<\/span><br \/>\n<span> \u00a0\u00a0Awards Mende has received include the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) Award of Distinction, International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Radiance Award, Japan Culture Design Award, Mainichi Design Award, President\u2019s Design Award in Singapore and others.\u00a0\u00a0Mende is a visiting professor at Musashino Art University and a part-time lecturer Tokyo University of Art.\u00a0\u00a0Mende is a member of the following associations, Architectural Institute of Japan (IAIJ), Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES), International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), and Japan Design Committee (JDC).<\/span><br \/>\n<span> \u00a0Books Mende has authored include, \u201cTransnational Lighting Detectives\u201d (Kajima Publishing), \u201cLIGHTING DESIGN for Urban Environments and Architecture\u201d (Rikuyosya), \u201cDesigning with Shadow\u201d (Rikuyosya), \u201cThe Light Seminar\u201d (Kajima Publishing), \u201cA Manner in Architectural Lighting Design\u201d (TOTO Publishing), \u201cLPA 1990-2015, Tide of Architectural Lighting Design\u201d (Rikuyosha), and many other.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":6310,"template":"","class_list":["post-5122","staff","type-staff","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","en-US","feed","feed-4"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lighting.co.jp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff\/5122","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lighting.co.jp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lighting.co.jp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/staff"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.lighting.co.jp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/6310"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.lighting.co.jp\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=5122"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
